A Somalia data platform
Leadership history, diaspora statistics, and a national snapshot — built from a real database, not a slide deck.
How it's built
SomaliaStats runs on a Postgres database hosted on Supabase, fed by an extract → raw → staging → mart pipeline that lands source data as-is, cleans and types it, then models it into the query-ready tables these pages read from. Every figure on this site traces back to a named source — the CIA World Factbook for country-level statistics, and Statistics Sweden (SCB) for diaspora data — with no interpolated or invented numbers in between.
Raw pulls from CIA World Factbook and SCB, stored exactly as received.
Typed, deduplicated, and mapped onto a shared metric/geography schema.
Query-ready tables grouped by theme (people, economy, diaspora, ...).
Plain HTML/JS pages fetch JSON exports of those tables — no build step.
Sources used on this site: CIA World Factbook (country snapshot statistics) · Statistics Sweden / SCB (Somali diaspora in Sweden) · a hand-compiled leadership record (1960–present).
